Orangetown ZIP Code Coverage
The County Reference Guide verifies eight postal ZIPs in the Orangetown context. They organize mail by postal community, not by a single Town-wide grid. The names matter because a record may use Blauvelt, Nyack, Orangeburg, Palisades, Pearl River, Piermont, Sparkill, or Tappan in place of the broader Town name. Use the guide’s post-office labels as a geographic check, then compare the exact street address with the tax search, parcel map, and legal description.
| ZIP | Town postal area | Post office | Local note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10913 | Blauvelt | Blauvelt Post Office, 545 Western Highway | Postal place, not a separate municipality |
| 10960 | Nyack and related river communities | Nyack Post Office, 48 South Broadway | Verify the parcel and municipal context |
| 10962 | Orangeburg | Orangeburg Post Office, 26 Orangeburg Road | Town Hall address is in this postal area |
| 10964 | Palisades | Palisades Post Office, 705 Oak Tree Road | Includes Palisades and Snedens Landing context |
| 10965 | Pearl River | Pearl River Post Office, 35 South Main Street | Railroad-centered community |
| 10968 | Piermont | Piermont Post Office, 393 Piermont Avenue | Village and riverfront context |
| 10976 | Sparkill | Sparkill Post Office, 2 Depot Square | Creek and Depot Square community |
| 10983 | Tappan | Tappan Post Office, 57 Old Tappan Road | Historic crossroads community |
Rockland County’s reference guide is the documented source for the list and post-office names. It does not supply a Town-wide resident count, ZIP population, parcel count, or a dated ZIP-boundary map, so the ZIP code directory should remain a postal-community index rather than a list of everyone receiving mail there.
Blauvelt and Orangeburg Postal Names
ZIP 10913 is associated with Blauvelt and the Blauvelt Post Office on Western Highway. It is a postal place name, not a separate municipal government. ZIP 10962 is associated with Orangeburg and the Orangeburg Post Office on Orangeburg Road, where the Town Hall address is also located. Those facts make both labels useful search terms when an address, tax record, permit request, local notice, or historical source does not use “Orangetown” as its primary location.
For the individual address, do not stop at the postal label. The Town’s tax search can identify tax-map and property-address context, while the County parcel viewer can show the parcel’s position, roads, municipal boundaries, and other layers. A tax mailing address may point somewhere else entirely. The legal description may instead use a lot, map reference, or older owner name. Each label belongs in the search notes because the different labels can all be accurate for different purposes.
Nyack, South Nyack, and River Labels
ZIP 10960 is the Nyack postal label in the guide and reaches related river communities. That makes it the most important local reminder that a postal name and municipal history are not interchangeable. A historical address can say Nyack, South Nyack, Grand View, or another riverfront place name, while a current property or Town record follows a different administrative route. Preserve the original name before normalizing it for a present-day search.
South Nyack’s village government dissolved in 2022, and related Town and Justice Court functions shifted into current Town systems. For a record around that transition, search the former Village of South Nyack label as well as the current Town label. The 1950s bridge and Thruway change also affected the former South Nyack riverfront fabric, so an older street reference may need a map, deed, or local-history source before it can be linked to a current parcel.
ZIP 10994 is the nearby warning label. The County guide lists the West Nyack Post Office at 720 West Nyack Road, but West Nyack is generally associated with Clarkstown, not an Orangetown neighborhood. Never treat a 10994 result as Town proof without checking the parcel and municipal boundary.
Pearl River, Piermont, Sparkill, Tappan
The remaining Orangetown postal communities carry useful local history as well as delivery labels. ZIP 10965 is Pearl River, a community whose development is tied to the railroad. ZIP 10968 is Piermont, an incorporated village with riverfront context. ZIP 10976 is Sparkill, associated with Sparkill Creek and Depot Square. ZIP 10983 is Tappan, an older crossroads community. These place names can be better historical search terms than a broad Town search when checking newspapers, directories, maps, museum material, or a deed’s earlier description.
Palisades, under ZIP 10964, adds another river and estate-landscape context through Palisades and Snedens Landing. A riverfront label can move a property’s paper trail among Nyack, South Nyack, Grand View, Piermont, Palisades, and neighboring places. Inland labels can point more directly to railroad, church, school, farm, or hamlet material. A person researching a family address should keep each date-specific place name and compare it with the deed description or mapped parcel before treating two similar-looking addresses as one place.
Note: Postal routing confirms a mail geography, while title, Town jurisdiction, school district, and election district each require their own official record.
Orangetown Portal Search Fields
No reviewed public portal produces a ZIP-wide resident list for Orangetown. Each search tool accepts a different key and returns a different kind of record. The Town BAS route does not have a ZIP field at all. RocklandGIS uses an address or Tax ID and map layers. The voter lookup includes ZIP or address prompts for self-service registration information, not reverse searching. The Department of State license search can accept County, City, and ZIP filters, but its results concern active professional licenses rather than all residents.
| Portal | Verified search fields | ZIP use | Result boundary |
|---|---|---|---|
| Town BAS | Tax Map #, Property Address, Owner Name, collection | No ZIP field located | Tax and parcel context, not a ZIP roster |
| RocklandGIS | Address, Tax ID, identify/click, layer controls | No verified ZIP-wide export | Parcel and district geography |
| NYS voter lookup | County, last name, first name, date of birth, ZIP or address prompts | Part of self-service matching | Not a public reverse directory |
| NYS licensee search | Last name, first name, license type, county, city, ZIP | Filter for license records | Professional affiliation, not residence proof |
The portal difference is deliberate. A parcel, license, registration, and postal result are separate data points. They should never be merged into a claim about all people in a ZIP.
Finding an Orangetown ZIP Address
Use a ZIP as a way to narrow the postal community, then return to the exact address. That route works better than trying to make a postal code do the work of a tax map or deed. Postal verification is separate from property verification. When a current mailing label matters, use the USPS ZIP and City State address lookup, then compare the result with the Town tax portal, County GIS, and the legal description.
- Start with the exact street number, street suffix, and postal community from an envelope, directory, or other dated source. Keep the original place label in the notes.
- Check the current postal label through USPS, then identify the address in BAS by Property Address. BAS accepts Tax Map #, Property Address, or Owner Name, not a ZIP-only search.
- Open the parcel in RocklandGIS by address or Tax ID. Inspect municipal boundaries and relevant layers before deciding whether the property is in the Town.
- For title questions, use the County Clerk deed index and legal description. For a past address association, use Rockland Room directories by community and street rather than ZIP alone.
- Use the voter lookup only to confirm a user’s own registration or follow a lawful records process through the Board of Elections. It is not a neighborhood lookup.
Once the ZIP has narrowed the community, the Orangetown Street Directory provides the address-by-address record chain for BAS, GIS, deeds, permits, and historical street sources.
Orangetown ZIP Code Boundary Limits
A postal code does not determine Town jurisdiction, title, voter precinct, school attendance, or parcel ownership. The postal city can be a village, hamlet, former village, or regional sorting destination. A parcel inside the Town may use a village postal city. A tax mailing address can be in another county or state. The title description may name a lot, a prior owner, or a recorded map. A post-office box can have a postal ZIP without being the location of a building.
The same caution applies near 10960 and 10994. 10960 can appear in Nyack-related and river-community records, while 10994 is a West Nyack and Clarkstown boundary warning. The County guide does not provide an official ZIP split date, ZIP population, Town parcel count by ZIP, or municipal-boundary polygon for each postal code. Do not fill those gaps with a guess. If a later official map disagrees with the guide, identify whether the difference is postal routing, municipal boundary, or a dated source revision.
Orangetown Postal Terms
Postal terms are easiest to use when their limits are clear. None of these terms replaces a parcel record, deed, or municipal-boundary review.
- ZIP versus ZIP+4
- A ZIP identifies the main delivery area. ZIP+4 adds a more precise delivery segment, but neither one decides a municipal boundary or title.
- PO-box ZIP
- A postal code assigned to post-office boxes. It can be a mail destination without being a physical situs address.
- Unique ZIP
- A postal code assigned to a single institution or organization. No unique Orangetown ZIP was established in the reviewed sources.
- Carrier route
- A delivery-route grouping used for mail operations. It is not a public household list or a substitute for a tax parcel.
- Situs, mailing, and legal address
- The physical parcel location, tax-notice destination, and title description can each be different and should be recorded separately.
Orangetown Postal Labels in History
Older local material may not use a modern postal code at all. The Rockland Room’s Cross Reference Directories cover 1978 through 1999, Nyack telephone books cover 1883 through 1890, and Rockland County telephone books cover 1910 through 1998. Search those resources by street and postal community. A past source may be indexed as Nyack, Pearl River, Tappan, Sparkill, Palisades, Blauvelt, Orangeburg, Piermont, South Nyack, or another date-specific name rather than by the Town or ZIP label now used.
This local geography can help with family history, estate research, and a former address, but it also creates false matches. Pair a directory or newspaper reference with a deed, tax record, census, probate file, or mapped parcel before treating it as the same address. South Nyack is especially important as a before-and-after 2022 search switch. The ZIP code directory preserves those postal and municipal distinctions so a current mailing label does not erase the name that an older record used.
